Survey: Consultants do not provide adequate guidance to clients on social media

The 2010 McCann Erickson Social Media Index has indicated that many consultants and agencies in the UK are not providing adequate guidance to their clients on social media. Of the total respondents surveyed, 48% felt that they did not know the most appropriate way to utilise social media. With 23.4% of the respondents believing that developments in social media were difficult to catch up with, 22.4% respondents showed interest in understanding social media, while stating that "genuine experts" were not easy to find in this field. However, a "marked increase" was reported in general usage of social media for communications activities since the last survey, which was conducted 12 months earlier. The IT departments were also stated to have become more willing to give access of social media sites to their marketing teams.
