Mike Trippitt

Lead Tutor

Mike is a knowledgeable and highly accomplished tutor.  He brings to the classroom an easy-going but deeply focussed approach, and helped me really get to grips with the topic.

Mike has been involved with financial teaching for a number of years, having spent time as an investor relations professional, and more recently as a sell-side analyst.  He also provides training courses for the UK Asset and Liability Management Association.
  • With a BA and MSocSc in Economics, worked as a financial analyst in the Technology and Oil sectors between 1978 and 1989
  • Worked for TSB Group (now Lloyds Banking Group) from 1989 to 1993 as Corporate Planning Manager and then Group Financial Controller, with responsibility for reporting, capital and dividend policies and group investor relations
  • Mike worked in bank equity research from 1995 to 2015 initially at SG Warburg, and later at Schroders, HSBC (where he ran the global banks research team), Stifel Financial (where he was also Head of Research) and Numis Securities (now Deutsche Numis).
  • From 2015 to date, involvement as an Expert Witness and consultant in a range of litigation matters involving UK and overseas banks, including the Lloyds Banking Group shareholder action around the 2008 acquisition of HBOS.
Since 2019, Mike has been working with Progressive Equity Research, covering a range of finance-related stocks.

Mike’s career has afforded him a wealth of experience analysing and understanding financial and other businesses.  He can draw on his roles both inside quoted companies and, on the other side of the information barrier, as an equity research analyst.  His work as an expert witness in high profile litigation cases has added to his understanding of the underlying businesses, and his ability to express complex concepts in a clear and succinct manner.
