Management Skills

An athlete wouldn’t dream of competing without training.
An actor wouldn’t dream of performing without rehearsing.

And yet in the corporate world we are constantly expected to sell, negotiate, present and influence at the drop of a hat. We often have little time for preparation and only get to practice our skills when we’re doing it for real and there’s no room for error.

Our courses will give you simple, practical advice and guidance and the chance to practice, make mistakes and practice again in a safe environment. You’ll build your skills and confidence for when it really matters.

INFLUENCING SKILLS

Influencing Skills - Paul Kelly

Successful influencing is getting commitment from another person or group of people to willingly follow a particular course of action.

There is no one single approach to influencing which will work in all situations and the most successful influencers are confident with a number of influencing strategies which they can flex to any particular situation.

In practice most of us have just one or two influencing strategies which we apply to all situations. The result is great success in some situations and a confusing lack of success in others (But it worked last time!).

If you need to influence successfully more often and in a greater variety of situations then influencing skills training is for you. You'll understand more about your preferred influencing style and why it works some or even most of the time. You'll also learn some other influencing styles and how to recognise when to use them. You'll also get to practice them so that they become more habitual before you need to use them for real.

As a result you'll achieve your own objectives more frequently, faster and with less friction from others.

COACHING AND FEEDBACK

Coaching & Feedback - Paul Kelly

Feedback and coaching are two of the most powerful techniques available to anyone with management responsibilities or simply working in a team.

Most of us shy away from giving feedback in anticipation of an uncomfortable situation.

In fact, it's perfectly possible to deliver powerful and constructive feedback to your staff, peers and those senior to you which actually enhances your working relationship with the recipient at the same time. Problems are nipped in the bud early and everyone has greater clarity about what is expected of them, saving you time and reducing your stress.

Once a problem has been identified and accepted, we're often very quick to take on the responsibility to solve it (it'll be quicker if I deal with it) despite the fact that the problem doesn't really lie with us and that we already have a very full in-tray.

In the vast majority of cases the person with whom the problem lies also has the ability to solve it -they just might need a little bit of help to refine the solution. Coaching is the process that will help them do that. A little of your time spent in a coaching conversation now can save you huge amounts of time and work later.

If you would like to deal with problems earlier and more effectively, improve your working relationships, save yourself time and work and empower those around you then feedback and coaching training is for you.

NEGOTIATION

Negotiation - Paul Kelly

In an ideal world a successful negotiation is a win-win discussion between two parties who leave the process having achieved a mutually acceptable solution.

In practice, most negotiations are simply a compromise and both parties leave the process having foregone many of their requirements in order to reach some sort of an agreement.

In particular, many negotiations over price simply end up as an agreement to meet in the middle and, crucially from a supplier's point of view, could have been avoided altogether.

Negotiation skills training will allow you to practice and master a number of techniques which will transform your negotiation outcomes. You'll learn how to plan properly for a negotiation and how to create and explore a range of options with the other party which keep the negotiation alive and positive. You'll know how to keep a negotiation pleasant for both parties in even the most difficult circumstances and how to build a personal reputation for being firm but fair.

If you would like to enjoy the process of negotiation more and achieve successful outcomes more often, then negotiation skills training is for you.
