Yellow Book

The rules for listed companies used to be a large yellow file. The rules are now operated by the FSA as UKLA and are available online but are sometimes referred to as the purple book.

yield

The income from an investment expressed as a percentage of the price of that investment.

yield curve

A curve on a graph in which the yield of fixed-interest securities is plotted against the length of time they have to run to maturity.

yield gap

The difference between the average annual dividend yield on equities and the average annual yield on long-dated gilts.

yield to redemption

The capital gain or loss on redemption of a bond.
